It has been argued that the
events of World War I so deeply shook the
Western world that the remainder of the 20th century would be spent
suffering from its consequences. It altered the world's balance
of
power, revolutionized the way wars were fought, and paved the way for
history's most aggregious crimes. Our goal in this unit is to
understand how something so terrible could happen. We hope to
understand its causes, methods, and costs. Perhaps most
imortanly, we
hope to understand how a war of this magnitude could solve so very
little. |
